26 de Septiembre: Día Europeo de las Lenguas / The European Day of Languages

Desde 2001 se viene celebrando en esta fecha el Día Europeo de las Lenguas. Especialmente, nosotros, los que formamos parte de un proyecto educativo internacional como lo es la Asociación Comenius “Net of Tolerance” en la que nos hallamos participantes españoles, turcos y griegos, sabemos lo importante que es el aprendizaje de las lenguas. Por eso hemos elegido como vehículo de comunicación el inglés, la principal lengua extranjera en la mayoría de los sistemas educativos. Pero nos encantaría poder comunicarnos en nuestras propias lenguas. Hicimos nuestros pinitos, cuando viajamos a Turquía y Grecia, pero son lenguas tan diferentes a la nuestra…

También la Comisión Europea nos anima a aprender otras lenguas en sus últimas recomendaciones. Con esta intención ha publicado un Comunicado titulado: "Multilingüismo: una ventaja para Europa y un compromiso compartido", en el que trata de las lenguas en el contexto más amplio de la cohesión social.

Para celebrar tan señalada fecha en nuestro instituto hicimos un mural en el que los alumnos escribían mensajes en diferentes lenguas, dibujos, graffitis o cualquier otra creación alusiva al multilingüismo. Podéis ver las fotos de la actividad en este mismo post.

Por otro lado, queríamos informar a todos nuestros amigos bloggeros de que en nuesro centro estamos tan concienciados de que saber diferentes lenguas es muy importante, que hemos iniciado un programa plurilingüe este curso, en el que algunos de nuestros alumnos podrán aprender las asignaturas del currículo en tres lenguas diferentes: castellano y valenciano (lenguas cooficiales en nuestra comunidad autónoma) e inglés.

The European Day of Languages has been celebrated since 2001. Especially we, the Turks, Greek and Spaniards participating in the international education programme the Comenius association “Net of Tolerance”, know how important the learning of languages is. That is why we have chosen English as our vehicle for communication, being the most spread foreign language in the greater part of educational systems. However, we would very much like to be able to understand each other in our own languages. We tried a little bit in our trips to Greece and Turkey, and in a few occasions we found speakers of Spanish, but our languages are so different to one another...

The European Union in its latest recommendations also encourages us to learn other languages. A communication about this subject has been issued. Its title is “ A multilingual context: an advantage for Europe and a shared compromise”, in which languages are treated in the widest sense of social cohesion.


To commemorate such a date, we made a wall display on which our pupils wrote messages in several languages, drawings, grafitti and whatever allusive multilingual creations. You can see some photos about it.

We also want to tell our blogger friends that in our school we are so aware of how important the learning of languages is that we have started a plurilingual programme in which some of our students will learn the concepts of their subjects in three different languages: Spanish and Valencian (the two coofficial languages in our autonomous community) and English.
