Elecciones Europeas 2009 / European Election 2009

El próximo 7 de junio se celebrarán elecciones al Parlamento Europeo para una legislatura que acabará en 2014. Estas elecciones tienen lugar en todos los países miembros de la Comunidad Europea y se aplicará el Tratado de Niza, según el cual se elegirán 732 eurodiputados en lugar de los 785 actuales. Sin embargo, en 2010 entrará en vigor el Tratado de Lisboa, según el cual los eurodiputados llegarán a ser 751, y, sin que haya una nueva elección, varios países aumentarán su número, entre ellos España, que pasará de 50 a 54.

En cada país se eligen por separado y las candidaturas se hacen dentro de los partidos políticos nacionales. Sin embargo, los partidos que tienen una misma ideología se suelen aliar aunque pertenezcan a estados diferentes.

Se aplicará la circunscripción única, es decir, se sumarán los votos de todos los españoles y se repartirán los escaños proporcionalmente entre los partidos que presentan candidatos siguiendo el sistema d`Hondt.

La participación es, en todos los países, más baja que en las elecciones internas debido a que todos pensamos que sus resultados nos van a afectar menos, sin embargo cada vez Europa tiene más competencias y poderes a todos los niveles y el hecho de que no lo consideremos importante es debido principalmente a la ignorancia.

Para los alumnos de bachiller y turismo que ya tengan 18 años será su primera participación en unas elecciones. Además, el hecho de que sean de ámbito europeo les supone el deber de informarse no sólo de las candidaturas de los partidos españoles y de sus programas electorales, sino también de los vínculos que formen con otros partidos de ideologías similares con los que trabajarán juntos mediante acuerdos o alianzas, ya sean anteriores o posteriores a la convocatoria. Todo un acto de responsabilidad que conlleva la entrada en la edad adulta y en nuestra pequeña contribución a una sociedad abierta, democrática y plural.

También los jóvenes griegos de Afxentio y Xanthi, vecinos de nuestros socios Comenius, votarán por sus representantes que trabajarán junto a los nuestros y quizás jueguen un papel decisivo en que nuestros otros socios y amigos turcos de Inçirliova, pronto sean miembros de esta gran Unión Europea. ¡Contemos con ello!



On July 7th the European Election 2009 will be held in every member state and the voted candidates will be chosen for a 5 year term ending in 2014. They will follow the Nice Treaty at first (by which there will be 732 Members of Parliament elected instead of the present 785), but in 2010 the Lisbon Treaty will be put into practice and then the number of MPs will increase up to 751 without a new election, and some countries - such as Spain – will increase its representation ( from 50 to 54 MPs in our case).

In each country their representatives are elected separately and the candidates are annouced from within their national parties though the political parties with similar ideologies in the whole of Europe usually join forces.

In Spain there will be a single national district which means that every vote will count the same and the sum of them will be proportionately divided among the voted candidates according to d`Hondt system.

The percentage of voters is in every country lower than in inner elections owing to the fact that we think that their results will not very seriously affect us. This is not really true as the European competence is becoming more and more important in all matters and disinterest is thus mainly due to ignorance.

It will be the first time our last year students take part in an election. Furthermore, the fact that it is a European one means they will have to get informed not only about the national parties’ programmes and candidates, but also about the ones presented by other parties from other countries with similar ideologies with which they can ally or make agreements either before or after June. A responsible task which the entry into adult life entails being also a part of a small individual contribution to an open, democratic and plural society.

The Greek youngsters from Afxentio and Xanthi, neighbours of our Comenius mates, will also vote for their representatives, who will work together with ours and may possibly have a decisive role in the fact that our other friends and partners from Inçirliova, in Turkey, are soon members of our big European Union. Let`s hope so!
