BIENVENIDA / WELCOME

This blog is a communication tool for every participant in the Comenius Lifelong Learning Programme (L.L.P.). It is a multilateral association of schools in these three countries: Turkey, Greece and Spain. We are going to deal with subjects such as History, Traditions, Religion, The Festive Cycle, etc. And our main objective is to approach the similarities which these three Mediterranean cultures have.

llevo tu luz y tu olor
por dondequiera que vaya,
y amontonado en tu arena
tengo amor, juegos y penas.
A tus atardeceres rojos
se acostubraron mis ojos
como el recodo al camino...
Soy cantor, soy embustero,
me gusta el juego y el vino,
Tengo alma de marinero...
Qué le voy a hacer, si yo
nací en el Mediterráneo.
Y te acercas, y te vas
después de besar mi aldea.
Jugando con la marea
te vas, pensando en volver.
Eres como una mujer
perfumadita de brea
que se añora y se quiere
que se conoce y se teme.
Ay, si un día para mi mal
viene a buscarme la parca.
Empujad al mar mi barca
con un levante otoñal
y dejad que el temporal
desguace sus alas blancas.
Y a mí enterradme sin duelo
entre la playa y el cielo...
En la ladera de un monte,
más alto que el horizonte.
Quiero tener buena vista.
Mi cuerpo será camino
le daré verde a los pinos
y amarillo a la genista...
Cerca del mar. Porque yo
nací en el Mediterráneo.

I cannot bear the temptation to share with our Turkish and Greek counterparts the lyrics of the song “The Mediterranean” by Joan Manuel Serrat. It is such a beautiful song! And it tells so much about our towns and villages!
Of course you will also have other songs which tell about the Mediterranean culture. Why don’t we share them? We’ll see the result of its translation into English:

Perhaps it is because my childhood
Goes on playing in your beach
And hidden behind some reeds
My first love keeps sleeping,
That I take your light and smell
Wherever I go,
And as a mountain on your sand
I’ve got love, games and sorrows.
Me, I have in my skin the sour
Taste of the eternal cry
Which have burst into you hundreds of places
From Algeciras to Istambul
For you to paint in blue
The long winter evenings.
Shattered by misfortunes,
Your soul is deep and dark.
My eyes got used to
your red dusk
as a road to its bends...
I’m a singer, I’m a liar,
I like gambling and wine,
I’ve got a sailor’s soul...
I cannot avoid to
have been born by the Mediterranean.
If you come close, and you leave
After kissing my village.
Playing with tide
You leave, thinking of coming back.
You are like a woman
Perfumed with pitch
Who is longed for and loved
Known and feared.
Oh! If one unfortunate day
Death comes to take me
Push my boat towards the sea
With an Autumn wind
And let the tempest
Unfold its white wings.
And bury me without a funeral
Just in between beach and sky...
In the side of a hill,
Higher than the horizon.
I want to have a good view.
My body will be a road,
I’ll give green to the pinetrees
And yellow to broom...
Near the sea. Because I
Was born by the Mediterranean.

Me encanta.
